A mai bejegyzésben bemutatom az angol karácsonyi szokásokat.
In today's post I will introduce the British christmas traditions.
Karácsonyfa
Általában egy héttel karácsony előtt, vagy pedig az igazi karácsony imádók december 1-jén dekorálják ki az egész házat kívül belül (a kandallót is), és a karácsonyfát. Itt a gyerekekkel együtt az egész család dekorál.
Christmas tree
Usually Brits decorate their house ( and the fireplace), and christmas tree one week before christmas, or real christmas fans decorate on the 1st December. Here, the whole family decorates the christmas tree.

Angol szokás szerint december 25-én reggel bontják ki az ajándékokat. December 25 és 26 ünnepnapnak minősül, de 24-e nem.

Brits open their presents on the 25th December morning. 25-26th December is a bank holiday, but 24th is not.

Secret Santa
Iskolákban, munkahelyeken Secret Santa-t játszanak, ami olyan mint nálunk (Magyarországon) amikor kihúzunk egy nevet mikuláskor és azt a személyt meg kell ajándékoznunk. Itt az angoloknál annyi a csavar, hogy mivel "Secret" Santa tehát az ajándékozó személye sosem derülhet ki. Kivéve ha elmondjuk az első adandó alkalommal ahogyan én tettem. Sőt, az ajándékot csak karácsonykor lehet kibontani. Én ezt is megszegtem. Több információért kattints ide.

Brits play Secret Santa in schools and workplaces. The British twist (compare to Hungarian version). as it is Secret, the name of the gift giver should not be revealed.Except, if you tell to the person at the earliest opportunity like I did. Also, you can only open your present at Christmas. I failed on this as well. For more information, click here.

Mince Pie
A mince pie olyan az angoloknak mint nekünk magyaroknak a bejgli. Egy forrás magyarul gyümölcskosárnak nevezi meg, de szerintem ez nem túl jó fordítás így én megmaradnék az angol nevénél. Ez a desszert omlós vajas tésztából készül és aszalt gyümölcsökkel van megtöltve. Az aszalt gyümis masszához adnak még egy kis brandyt, mazsolát, mogyorót, narancsot- citrus ízt. Hidegen és melegen is tálalhatjuk, minden szupermarketben megtalálható, de akár otthon is elkészíthető.
Általában sokan félreértik, azt gondolják, hogy a mince meat ebben az esetben is darált húst jelent. Tehát sokan húsos pitének hiszik, de nem az. :)

Ez a második legfontosabb angol karácsonyi desszert, amit december 25-én szoktak fogyasztani a karácsonyi menü részeként.
Az angol Pudding megnevezés ismét ne tévesszen meg, ahogyan a képen is láthatod, ez egy inkább talán gyümölcskenyérre emlékeztető édesség. Nagyon tömör, édes desszert, alkohollal készült, és tele van aszalt gyümölcsökkel. Hónapkon keresztül érlelik, hogy karácsonyra igazán jó íze legyen. This is the second most important British christmas dessert, which is consumed on the 25th December as part of the Christmas menu.
The phrase pudding do not confuse you, as you can see it on the picture, this dessert is similar to a fruit bread. It is extremely heavy, rich, made of alcohol and it is full of dried fruits. A tipikus karácsonyi étel: sült pulyka, köretnek: krumpli krokett, krumpli püré, sütőben sült krumpli, zöldségek: főtt répa és kelbimbó, sült paszternák, párolt káposzta, baconbe tekert sült koktél virsli, töltelék, szósz: gravy, vörösáfonya.
Sok szupermarketben lehet rendelni különféle karácsonyi főételeket (lazac, bárány, pulyka stb.), amik előre be vannak fűszerezve, már csak be kell tenni a sütőbe és kész is. Nagyon széleskörű a választék a Marks and Spencerbe, kattints ide.

The typical christmas dinner is roast turkey, potatoe croquettes, mash potatoe, roast potatoe, cooked carrot and brussels sprouts, roast parsnips, braised cabbage, cocktail sausage in bacon, gravy and cranberry sauce.
You can also order several main christmas dishes (salmon, lamb, turkey etc), which is already pre-flavoured, you just have to put it into the oven and job done. There is a wide selection at Marks and Spencers, click here to check it.

Sajnos ennek sem tudom a magyar nevét, talán karácsonyi pukkantó, de az angolok karácsonyi étkezéskor "használják". Ez egy papírból készült, szaloncukor alakú dolog, amiben van egy papír korona, egy vers vagy vicc és valamilyen kis ajándék. Étkezés előtt vagy közben mindenki kap egy "pukkantót" és ha széthúzza, pukkan egyet, majd kiesik belőle az ajándék. Több információért kattints az angol wikipedia-ra.

The christmas crackers are usuallay pulled at the christmas dinner. This is made of paper, which can consists a paper crown, a poem or a joke and a little gift. Before or during dinner, everybody gets a cracker, you pull it, then you will hear a popping sound, and the gifts fall out.

Karácsonyi képeslapok
Emlékszem amikor kicsi voltam mi is küldtünk képeslapot minden távoli rokonnak, de mostanában már nem szoktunk. Itt Angliában az idősebb generáció még mindig küld képeslapot a rokonoknak és barátoknak, de ami igazán furcsa volt számomra, hogy a munkatársak is adnak egymásnak.
Idén azt gondoltam, hogy a képeslapokat nem csak angolul írom meg, hanem magyarul is. Nagyon vicces volt, amikor a munkatársaim angolul próbálták a magyar szöveget olvasni :)
Christmas Cards
I remember when I was young, we sent postcards for all relatives who lived far from us, but nowadays we do not keep the tradition. Here in England, the older generation still send christmas cards to their relatives and friends, but what was really strange for me is that colleagues give cards for each other as well.
This time, I thought I will not only write the cards in English, but in Hungarian as well. It was really funny, when all my colleagues tried to read the Hungarian text in English. :)
