Viki évek óta Hollandiában él, így azt gondolta készít egy olyan bejegyzést ahol ő is és én is ugyanazokra a kérdésekre válaszolunk, csak ő Hollandiával, én pedig Angliával kapcsolatban. A mai bejegyzésben kiragadtam pár kérdést az interjúból és lefordítottam angolra is. A teljes interjúért kattintsatok ide.

Since years Viki lives in Netherlands so she thought about making a post where we reply to the same questions but she answered about Holland and I did about England. 1. Miért ezt az országot választottad?
Kb. 14 éves korom óta éreztem, hogy Angliába kell mennem, azt hiszem a „furcsasága” vonzott. Emlékszem, csak úgy áhítoztam arról, hogy egy reggel felkelek Londonban, van egy tuti melóm amit imádok, és csak úgy jön a „londoni életérzés” mint a Hirtelen 30 című filmben (Csak Angliában)….
Természetesen a valóságban nem ez történt.
2007-ben lehetőségem volt egy hetet eltölteni különböző angol városokban, amit nagyon élveztem. Ezért 2008-ban ismét eljöttem, de akkor „csak” Londonban tartozkodtam egy hétig. Aztán telt múlt az idő, vágyakoztam, hogy egyszer majd kijövök. Elkezdtem az egyetemet otthon andragógia szakon és aztán egyszer csak a párom felhívott, hogy mi lenne ha kijönnénk Angliába. Egyszer ő már neki indult volna, de miattam visszamondta (épp akkor ismerkedtünk meg), ezért most nem tarthattam vissza őt sem, és magamat sem hiszen ez volt minden álmom.
2010 Április 1-jén meghoztuk a döntést, leültettem a szüleimet és elmondtam nekik, hogy Angliába költözök.... Nem volt egy egyszerű dolog, se nekem, sem a szüleimnek.
Why did you choose this country?
Approximately since I was 14 I felt that I had to come to UK, it attracted me because it is so different than Hungary. I remember I was just dreaming about a life when I woke up in London, have a brilliant job which I enjoy and I am having the London dream just as in the movie 13 going on 30 (but in England)...
Of course in reality it did not happen like that.
In 2007 I had the opportunity to spend a week in different British cities which I really enjoyed. Then in 2008 I came again but I spent the whole week in London. The time went by and I was just dreaming about coming to UK. I have started university in Hungary in andragogy (adult learning) course and then my boyfriend called me asking if we would move to the UK. He already wanted to come once but then he cancelled because of me (we have just met) so I could not hold him back again, and of course neither myself as this was my dream.
So then 1st April 2010 we have made the decision, I have told my parents that from one day to another I am moving to UK... It was not easy, neither for me nor to them.
2. Hogyan készültél fel a kiköltözésre?
Hát nem igazán volt időm felkészülni. 2010 Április 1-jén meghoztuk a döntést és a párom (Norbi) felvette a kapcsolatot az unokatestvérével, aki már kint lakott. Többen mondhatják, jah így könnyű. Nem volt az, mert sajnos kiutazásomat követően 2 hónapra rá ő elköltözött és magunkra maradtunk de nagyon hálásak vagyunk neki.
A párom májusban kiutazott, én pedig követtem őt júliusban. Az egyezség a szülőkkel az volt, ha felvesznek egyetemre, vagy sikerül jó munkahelyet találnom, maradhatok. Felvettek az egyetemre...
Kiutazásom előtt javában a vizsgaidőszak csodás napjait éltem, miközben diákmelóztam, hogy minél több pénzt összeszedjek. Tehát nem volt időm nyelvet tanulni, vagy bármilyen más módon felkészülni az utazásra. Egy kézipoggyásszal és egy nagy bőrőnddel érkeztem az országba.
How did you prepare for the move?
I did not really have time to prepare. We have made the decision on 1st April 2010 so my boyfriend (Norbi) got in touch with his cousin who already lived here. You could say, ooh that's easy then. It was not because 2 months after I moved to England Norbi's cousin moved house and left us alone, however we are really grateful for him.
Norbi moved to UK in May and I followed him in July. The agreement with my parents was that if I can start university or get a good job, I will stay. I got the place at university....
Before moving abroad I enjoyed the beautiful exam period of Hungarian higher education, while I was working in part-time to save as much money as I could. So I did not have time to learn the language or prepare for the journey. I have arrived to the country with one hand luggage and a large luggage.
3. Mi a véleményed az országról, emberekről?
Immáron 3 és fél éve itt élünk, itt, abban az országban amelyről mindig is álmodoztam. El kell , hogy mondjam, habár nem Londonba költöztünk, hanem egy vidéki nagy városba, nagyon szeretek itt élni. Szeretem, hogy az emberek kedvesek és türelmesek egymással. Szeretem, hogy itt hagynak élni.
What is your opinion about the country and the people?
We live more than 3 and half years in the country, which I always dreamt of. I have to say, that however we did not move to London, just in a smaller city, I love living here. I like that people are nice and patient with each other. I love that they let you live.
4. Miért jó/rossz külföldön élni?
Jó, mert erre vágytam, hogy itt éljek, egy álmom vált valóra. Jó, hogy angolul beszélek mindennap legalább 8-4ig amire szintén mindig is vágytam. Jó az, hogy itt elismerik az embert ha ügyes, ha kreatív és nem nézik le, még akkor sem pl.ha takarít. Ez otthon egy degradáló szakma, de itt, ezt is elismerik, hiszen ez egy nagyon nehéz, fizikai munka. Továbbá szeretem, hogy az emberek optimisták, kedvesek és mosolygósak. Habár sokat esik az eső, de itt az embereknek van pénze, hogy évente akár többször is elmenjenek nyaralni. Szeretem, hogy sokféle nemzetiség él együtt, nagyon sokat lehet tanulni más nemzetektől. Azért is jó, hogy ennyi kultúra vegyül, mert így ki lehet próbálni különböző ételeket indiait, japánt, kínait, pakisztánit, angolt, olaszt, franciát stbstb. Szeretem az itteni egyetemi rendszert: nem kell magolni, hanem inkább a gyakorlatias oktatást preferálják.
Mi a rossz? Hogy nem látom a szüleimet, a bátyámat, rokonaimat, barátaimat és a kutyusomat. Hiányzik Budapest, Balaton és a nyár. Ennyi.
Why is it good/bad to live abroad?
It is good because this was my dream to live here, so my dream became true. I love that I speak in English everyday at least from 8-4pm. I like people recognise those ones who are smart and creative and nobody looks down on somebody who is a e.g. cleaner. This is a degrading job at home, but here it is recognised as a really hard physical work. Also I like that people are optimistic, nice and smiley. However it rains a lot, people have money to go for a holiday couple of times a year. I love that lots of different nationality lives together which is a good opportunity to learn from each other. Due to the different cultures, it is a great experience to be able to try different cuisines such as Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Pakistan, British, Italian, and French etc.
I love the higher education system here as there is no need to mug, they prefer the practical education.
What's bad? I cannot see my parents, my brother, my relatives, friends and my dog. I also miss Budapest, the Balaton and summer. That's it.

5. Sikerült beilleszkedni vagy idegennek érzed magad?
Szerintem sikerült. Azért, mert azt gondolom ha valaki kiköltözik egy másik országba, akkor el kell tudnia fogadnia az ottani szabályokat, szokásokat. Nem kell mindent átvennie, de el kell tudni fogadni. A befogadó ország nem kért senkit, hogy kijöjjön, mi jöttünk ki ide, tehát nekünk kell alkalmazkodni.
Azt gondolom, az angolok elfogadják és elismerik azokat a külföldieket, akik tesznek érte, hogy beilleszkedjenek. Én a karrier lépcső legaljáról kezdtem, gyári munkásként, mosogatóként majd pincérként, aztán recepciósként dolgoztam, míg végül elértem a HR adminisztrátori munkáig. (Bárkinek szívesen elmesélem min mentem keresztül, hogy jutottam el idáig.)
Hiába vagyok egy nyílt, barátkozós ember, angolokkal nem sikerült igazi jó barátságot kötni. Az angol kollégáimat kedvelem, de nem leszünk legjobb barátok. Egyszerűen azért mert más a neveletetésünk, mások vagyunk. Nem mondom azt, hogy mindenkinek így van, de nekem igen. Az itteni barátaim is külföldiek: egy magyar házaspáron kívül, egy bolgár szaktársnőm még egyetemről és egy portugál lány szintén az egyetemről.
Do you think you could to fit into the new country or do you still feel as a stranger?
I think I could. I think it is because if somebody moves to a different country, the person has to accept the rules and traditions of that country. You do not have to take in everything but you have to accept them. The host country did not ask anybody to live here, we came here therefore we have to adapt.
I also think British people accept and recognise those foreigners who work hard to fit into the society. I have started from the bottom of the career ladder as a factory worker, pot washer then worked as a waitress then moved onto receptionist and then finally I got HR admin jobs. (I am more than happy to tell you what I have been through, how did I get here)
However I am an open, friendly person I could not make good friendships with British people. I love my colleagues, but I do not think we will be best friends. For the simple reason because we have been raised differently, we are different. I am not saying that this is the same case for everybody, but it is true for me. I have two foreign friends here, besides of a Hungarian married couple, a Bulgarian lady from university and a Portugal girl also from university.
6. Van tipped azoknak, akik most akarnak külföldön munkát vállalni/tanulni?
Nagyon sokan csak azt látják, Orsy Angliában él, van egy jó munkája, egy hosszútávú kapcsolata, független- ezalatt azt értem, hogy 20 éves korom óta külön lakom a szüleimtől,stb. De azt senki sem látja, hogy emögött mennyi áldozat és kemény munka van. Senki ne úgy képzelje el, hogy kijön Angliába, és egyből minden az ölébe hullik. Bárcsak így lenne, de ezért kőkeményen meg kell dolgozni.
Három dolog mindenképpen kell: bátorság, magabiztos nyelvtudás és pénz. Enélkül semmiképpen ne költözzünk ki Angliába, nincs értelme, csak szenvedés lesz a vége. Sokan megkerestek már a blogomon keresztül, hogy átvágták őket, munkahelyi/lakhatási problémáik vannak a nyelvtudás hiánya miatt.
Még egy tanács, azok akik hosszabb távra tervezik, azoknak érdemes egy itteni képzést is elvégezni, ez nagyban fogja segíteni az itteni karrierjüket és, hogy még jobban beilleszkedjenek. Én nagyon szeretem az itteni egyetemet, két szakot is kipróbáltam már (Vendéglátás menedzsment, és Humán Erőforrás Menedzsment/Üzleti Menedzsment), nekem nagyon tetszett. Nem csak az elméletre mennek rá, hanem az elméletet kell tudni használni a gyakorlatban. A beadandó esszék és beszámolók is ezt gyakoroltatják. Például csoportban választanunk kellett egy céget és annak a vállalati felelősségvállalását kellett elemezni egy videó prezentációban. Imádtam ezt a projektet, sokat kutattunk, készültünk rá, de megérte, nagyon jó lett :)
Could you give any advice to those who wants to move abroad to work/study?
Lots of people only see that Orshy lives in England; she has a good job, long relationship, independent- I mean that since I was 20 I live separately from my parents etc. But nobody sees what is behind it, how hard I have worked for this success. Nobody should think after they moved to the UK everything comes on a golden tray. I wish it would, but you have to work extremely hard for this.
You need three things: Courage, confident level of English and money. Without these do not move to UK, it does not make sense as you would be suffering. Lots of people found me through my blog complaining that fraud them, they have problems with work/housing due to language barrier.
I have one more advice for those people who are planning to live here for a longer period, to complete a British course, which will help their career and to be able to fit in easier. I really love the British university, I have learnt on 2 courses (hospitality management, and Human resources/Business Management) which I enjoyed. They do not teach you just the theory of the subject, but also how to use the theory in practise. You can practise this through different assignments. For example we as a group had to choose a company and analyse their corporate social responsibility in a video presentation. I really enjoyed this project, we researched a lot, prepared a lot but it was worth as we got a good grade for it. :)
7. Van esetleg valamilyen vicces/furcsa/számodra kellemes rövid történeted?
Hiába élünk itt már majd’ 4 éve, még mindig vannak (és lesznek is) vicces történetek nyelvtanulással kapcsolatban. Tudni kell, hogy Közép Angliában máshogyan beszélnek mint mondjuk Londonban, van egy Derbyshire-i akcentus. Ez szokott sok örömet okozni, amikor próbálok valamit elmagyarázni, ők nem értik a kifejezést, kijavítanak, de aztán sokszor már ők is inkább úgy mondják a szót helytelenül, ahogyan előtte én mondtam. :) Erre egy példa: arról beszéltünk a munkahelyemen, hogy a dokumentumokat be fogom tenni a fiókos szekrényembe (ott keressék később). A fiókos szekrény chest of drawer angolul, de röviden csak drawer. A kiejtést még én otthon úgy tanultam, hogy dro(w)er, de ezen a munkatársaim jó nagyot kacagtak... Közölték, hogy ezt drow-nak kell ejteni ugyanúgy mint azt a szót, hogy rajzolni.... Erre én belementem, hogy ha a szóösszetételt nézzük helytelen ahogyan ők mondják :D 6-1re veszítettem, de azóta is mindenki csak drawernek ejti és minden alkalommal nevetünk rajta egyet.
Mostanában mindennap tanítanak a kollégáim és a főnököm egy angol közmondást vagy nyelvtörőt. Nagy az öröm az irodában amikor aztán ezeket a kifejezéseket a mindennapokban is előszeretettel használom. Pl. Easy peasy lemon squeeze (Egyszerű mint az egyszer egy) vagy nyelvtörőnek Red lorry yellow lorry.
Do you have any funny/strange/nice short story?
We almost live here for 4 years, but there are (and always be) funny stories about language learning. You have to know that there is a different Derbyshire accent here in East Midlands, it is not like the London accent. This is the base of so many funny stories when I try to explain something but then Brits do not understand it, they correct me, or they just pronounce the word incorrectly as I have done before. Here is an example for this: At my workplace we were talking about that I will put the documents into the drawer (so they can find it later). I have learnt the pronunciation of it as Drawer but my colleagues were laughing at me.... They said that I have to pronounce it as the word draw which means an act of drawing.. Then I explained to them that if we check the er at the end they say it incorrectly :D I lost for 6-1 but since then everybody pronounces it as drawer and laughs all the time. (Norbi has asked his colleagues and they pronounce it as drawer)
Nowadays my colleagues and also my manager teach me an English saying or tongue twister. It is really funny when I learn these things and use it in my everyday speaking. For example: Easy peasy lemon squeeze, or Red lorry yellow lorry as a tongue twister.
8. Mik a terveid a jövőre nézve?
Hm... Általában előre szoktam tervezni, akár egy évre is, (ami vagy bejön vagy nem) de idén ez máshogy van. Jelenleg dolgozok teljes munkaidőben és passziváltattam az egyetemen egy évig, tehát jó lenne ismét visszaülni az iskolapadba szeptembertől és megszerezni a diplomát. Aztán egyetem után el kellene döntenem, hogy folytatom-e a HR-es vonalat a karrieremben, vagy pedig ismét követem az álmaimat, ami megint rizikós.
What's your plan for the future?
Hm... I love planning ahead even for a year, but this year it is different. I work in full time and suspended my studies for one year, so I would love to go back to university from September and get my degree. After university I should decide if I want to continue my career in HR or follow my dream which is risky again.

Három dolog mindenképpen kell: bátorság, magabiztos nyelvtudás és pénz. Enélkül semmiképpen ne költözzünk ki Angliába, nincs értelme, csak szenvedés lesz a vége. Sokan megkerestek már a blogomon keresztül, hogy átvágták őket, munkahelyi/lakhatási problémáik vannak a nyelvtudás hiánya miatt.
Még egy tanács, azok akik hosszabb távra tervezik, azoknak érdemes egy itteni képzést is elvégezni, ez nagyban fogja segíteni az itteni karrierjüket és, hogy még jobban beilleszkedjenek. Én nagyon szeretem az itteni egyetemet, két szakot is kipróbáltam már (Vendéglátás menedzsment, és Humán Erőforrás Menedzsment/Üzleti Menedzsment), nekem nagyon tetszett. Nem csak az elméletre mennek rá, hanem az elméletet kell tudni használni a gyakorlatban. A beadandó esszék és beszámolók is ezt gyakoroltatják. Például csoportban választanunk kellett egy céget és annak a vállalati felelősségvállalását kellett elemezni egy videó prezentációban. Imádtam ezt a projektet, sokat kutattunk, készültünk rá, de megérte, nagyon jó lett :)
Could you give any advice to those who wants to move abroad to work/study?
Lots of people only see that Orshy lives in England; she has a good job, long relationship, independent- I mean that since I was 20 I live separately from my parents etc. But nobody sees what is behind it, how hard I have worked for this success. Nobody should think after they moved to the UK everything comes on a golden tray. I wish it would, but you have to work extremely hard for this.
You need three things: Courage, confident level of English and money. Without these do not move to UK, it does not make sense as you would be suffering. Lots of people found me through my blog complaining that fraud them, they have problems with work/housing due to language barrier.
I have one more advice for those people who are planning to live here for a longer period, to complete a British course, which will help their career and to be able to fit in easier. I really love the British university, I have learnt on 2 courses (hospitality management, and Human resources/Business Management) which I enjoyed. They do not teach you just the theory of the subject, but also how to use the theory in practise. You can practise this through different assignments. For example we as a group had to choose a company and analyse their corporate social responsibility in a video presentation. I really enjoyed this project, we researched a lot, prepared a lot but it was worth as we got a good grade for it. :)
Hiába élünk itt már majd’ 4 éve, még mindig vannak (és lesznek is) vicces történetek nyelvtanulással kapcsolatban. Tudni kell, hogy Közép Angliában máshogyan beszélnek mint mondjuk Londonban, van egy Derbyshire-i akcentus. Ez szokott sok örömet okozni, amikor próbálok valamit elmagyarázni, ők nem értik a kifejezést, kijavítanak, de aztán sokszor már ők is inkább úgy mondják a szót helytelenül, ahogyan előtte én mondtam. :) Erre egy példa: arról beszéltünk a munkahelyemen, hogy a dokumentumokat be fogom tenni a fiókos szekrényembe (ott keressék később). A fiókos szekrény chest of drawer angolul, de röviden csak drawer. A kiejtést még én otthon úgy tanultam, hogy dro(w)er, de ezen a munkatársaim jó nagyot kacagtak... Közölték, hogy ezt drow-nak kell ejteni ugyanúgy mint azt a szót, hogy rajzolni.... Erre én belementem, hogy ha a szóösszetételt nézzük helytelen ahogyan ők mondják :D 6-1re veszítettem, de azóta is mindenki csak drawernek ejti és minden alkalommal nevetünk rajta egyet.
Mostanában mindennap tanítanak a kollégáim és a főnököm egy angol közmondást vagy nyelvtörőt. Nagy az öröm az irodában amikor aztán ezeket a kifejezéseket a mindennapokban is előszeretettel használom. Pl. Easy peasy lemon squeeze (Egyszerű mint az egyszer egy) vagy nyelvtörőnek Red lorry yellow lorry.
Do you have any funny/strange/nice short story?
We almost live here for 4 years, but there are (and always be) funny stories about language learning. You have to know that there is a different Derbyshire accent here in East Midlands, it is not like the London accent. This is the base of so many funny stories when I try to explain something but then Brits do not understand it, they correct me, or they just pronounce the word incorrectly as I have done before. Here is an example for this: At my workplace we were talking about that I will put the documents into the drawer (so they can find it later). I have learnt the pronunciation of it as Drawer but my colleagues were laughing at me.... They said that I have to pronounce it as the word draw which means an act of drawing.. Then I explained to them that if we check the er at the end they say it incorrectly :D I lost for 6-1 but since then everybody pronounces it as drawer and laughs all the time. (Norbi has asked his colleagues and they pronounce it as drawer)
Nowadays my colleagues and also my manager teach me an English saying or tongue twister. It is really funny when I learn these things and use it in my everyday speaking. For example: Easy peasy lemon squeeze, or Red lorry yellow lorry as a tongue twister.
8. Mik a terveid a jövőre nézve?
Hm... Általában előre szoktam tervezni, akár egy évre is, (ami vagy bejön vagy nem) de idén ez máshogy van. Jelenleg dolgozok teljes munkaidőben és passziváltattam az egyetemen egy évig, tehát jó lenne ismét visszaülni az iskolapadba szeptembertől és megszerezni a diplomát. Aztán egyetem után el kellene döntenem, hogy folytatom-e a HR-es vonalat a karrieremben, vagy pedig ismét követem az álmaimat, ami megint rizikós.
What's your plan for the future?
Hm... I love planning ahead even for a year, but this year it is different. I work in full time and suspended my studies for one year, so I would love to go back to university from September and get my degree. After university I should decide if I want to continue my career in HR or follow my dream which is risky again.
