Today, I will introduce another form of higher education where you do not have to spend your time at school desk. It is called the Open University.

What is the Open University?
The Open University is a distance learning and research university, was established in 1969. The first students enrolled in 1971. Firstly the learning materials have been sent to the students via post, and the lectures were broadcasted by BBC. If you want to know more about the history of the university, then click here.

Az egyetem célkitűzése, hogy a felsőoktatás elérhető legyen mindenkinek bárhol a világban és nyitott minden módszerre, ötletre.
Ezt a gyakorlatban úgy valósítják meg, hogy bárki jelenetkezhet bármelyik szakra, teljesen mindegy az életkor és, hogy hol lakik a tanuló.
Nem kell előtanulmány, hogy jelentkezhess az egyetemre. Nem számít ki mit tanult (vagy épp mit nem) ezelőtt.
Az egyetem szívesen látja az olyan új tanulókat is akik esetleg valamiért abbahagyták az iskolát, de folytatnák vagy akik nem tehetik meg, hogy nappali tagozaton tanulnak, hiszen tanulás mellett is dolgozniuk kell stb.
Tehát megadják a lehetőséget, hogy bárki, bárhonnan a világból megszerezzen egy angol diplomát.
What is the mission of the university?
The mission of the university is to make higher education available to everyone anywhere in the World and it is open to methods and ideas.
In practice it means, that anybody can apply to any courses, regardless of age or where the student lives.
It is not necessary to have pre- education to be able to enroll to the university. It does not matter what you have studied before (or what not).
The university is also open for those students who left school, but wish to continue, or for those ones who cannot study full-time, because they have to work alongside studying etc.
The opportunity is given to anybody, anywhere in the World to gain a British degree.
Ahogy említettem, amikor az egyetem elindult, a BBC veítette le az előadásokat a TV-ben. Természetesen a mai világban, már több, más forrás áll a tanulók rendelkezésére.
1. Open Learn: Az egyetem több díjat is bezsebelt honlapja, ahol többféle tanulási segédlet is megtalálható.
2. ITune: A Nyílt Egyetem az első egyetem, amely csatlakozott az Apple ITune nevezetű programjához. A tananyag letölthető, meghallgatható.
3. Youtube: Az előadások részletei megtalálhatóak az egyetem Youtube csatornáján, továbbá egyéb videók kutatásokról és a diákéletről.
4. Open Research: Ezen a honlapon több mint 15000 kutatási publikáció található meg.
Ezeken kívül, lehet online és személyesen is felvenni kapcsolatot oktatókkal, tanulási tanácsadóval, diákokkal.

Teaching and learning
As I mentioned earlier, when the university opened, the BBC broadcasted the lectures in TV. Of course, nowadays, there are other sources.
1. Open Learn: The university's multi-award winning website, where there are several types of learning materials.
2. ITune: The Open University was the first university to join to Apple's ITune programme. You can download and listen learning materials.
3. Youtube: Extracts of lectures, and other videos about researches and student life can be found on the university's Youtube channel.
4. Open Research: On this website more than 15000 research publications can be found.

Képesítések
A Nyílt Egyetemen belül többféle képesítés is megszerezhető. Nézzünk néhány példát:
1. Undergraduate Degree (Bachelor degree), azaz az alapképzés, ami általában 3 éves és a végén alapfokú diplomát kapsz az adott szakból (Ugyanúgy mint Magyarországon). Külön érdekesség, hogy itt lehet egy úgynevezett Open Degree-t csinálni, ami azt jelenti, hogy te választod ki a moduljaidat, különféle témákból.
2. Foundation Degree, ez egy olyan képesítés, amely az alapfokú diploma 2/3-át jelenti. A gyakorlatias tanuláson alapul, tehát a tanulás mellett dolgozni is kell (fizetésért, vagy önkéntesen) az adott téma irányában. Ezután még lehet tovább tanulni és akkor alapfokú diplomát szerezni.
3. Diplomas of Higher Education (DipHE): Ez is olyasmi mint a Foundation Degree, de utóbbi egyetemi szintű, még előbbi nem. Ez is az alapfokú diploma 2/3-át jelenti és inkább az elméletre helyezik a hangsúlyt.
4. OU Diplomas: Ez a speciális képesítés a Nyílt Egyetem által lett létrehozva, amely hozzájárul a jelenlegi karriered fejlődésében és elismertté tenni a szakmában.
5. Certificates of Higher Diploma (CertHE): Ez a legalsó szintű képesítés a felsőoktatásban, az alapfokú diploma 1/3-át teszi ki. Tovább lehet tanulni DipHE-n, Foundation Degree-n, vagy Undergraduate Degree-n.
6. OU Certificates: Ez a képesítés is a Nyílt Egyetem által lett létrehozva és mint a CertHE, egy alsóbb szintű képesítés, amellyel ismét a karrierünk fejlődését tudjuk elősegíteni és, hogy jobban elmélyedjünk az adott témában elméleti szinten.

Attól függetlenül, hogy ez egy távoktatási egyetem, az itt szerzett diplomát ugyanúgy elismerik mindenhol.
Qualifications
There are several types of qualifications you can gain in Open University. Let's see some examples:
1.Undergraduate Degree (BA degree), this is a 3 years course, where you will gain a degree in a named subjects. Also, there is a degree called Open Degree, where you can combine the modules from different subjects.
2. Foundation Degree, which is equivalent to 2/3 of an honours degree. It is based on practical learning, therefore you must work (as a paid employee or volunteer) in a related work setting. You can then continue to achieve an undergraduate degree.
3. Diplomas of Higher Education (DipHE): This is similar to Foundation Degree, but the latter is a university qualification and the former is not. This qualification is equivalent to 2/3 of an honours degree and it focuses on the theory more.
4. OU Diplomas: This qualification is specially designed by Open University to help to improve your current carrier and gain professional recognition.
5. Certificates of Higher Diploma (CertHE): This is the most basic level of qualification that can be gained in higher education, which is equivalent to 1/3 of an honours degree. You can then continue to achieve a DipHE, Foundation Degree and Undergraduate Degree.
6. OU Certificates: This is a special qualification designed by Open University and just as the CertHE it is a basic level of qualification, which again helps to improve our carrier and to gain greater knowledge of a subject.

Regardless that this is a distance learning university, the degree you gain here is accepted everywhere, as a normal degree.

Sokféle fizetési mód van a Nyílt Egyetemnél, részletfizetés, munkáltatói támogatás, diákhitel stb, de országtól függ. Ha Angliában élsz, akkor fel tudod erre is venni az angol diákhitelt, de például ha Magyarországról tanulnál, nem tudsz felvenni diákhitelt. How to pay?
There are several ways to pay to Open University, pay in installments, sponsorship, student loan etc. but it depends on the country you live in. If you live in England, you can get the English student loan, but if you would study from Hungary, you cannot have a student loan.
