As I
mentioned before we applied for a 6 months placement in a 5star hotel in
Scotland. I cannot tell you the name of the hotel and the exact place where it
is (I can tell you in a private message), but I will share my experience with
you.
We departured from Chapel at 10.30am on Sunday to Manchester and then change till Edinburgh. Then we continued our trip to the hotel by train which took one more hour. We travelled by the Northern Rail and the TransPennine Express, we payed ₤140 for the return tickets for two people all together and the travel took 7 hours. We have not travelled by TransPennine before but now I can tell you that it is very comfortable and spacious with a snack trolley (you can buy food and drink). We travelled 3 hours by this train and looked at the beautiful scottish scenery.

A vasútállomásra
eljött értünk a hotel hivatalos sofőrje. A hotelben kaptunk szállást, és
ételutalványt, ezekért nem kellett fizetni. Az első este csak körül néztünk,
próbáltunk nem elveszni a hotel labirintusban. Másnap, reggeli után elmentünk a
személyügyre ahol elmondták mit kell csinálnunk, és elvittek minket a megfelelő
részlegre. Én így kerültem a takarítókhoz, Norbi pedig az egyik étterembe.
One of the porter of the hotel came to the train station and took us to the hotel. We got accommodation and meal card so we did not have to pay for those. On the first night we looked around and tried not to get lost in the labyrinth of the hotel. Next day after breakfast we went to the HR department where they told us what to do and took us to the relevant department. That is why I went to the Housekeeping department, and Norbi went to one of the restaurants.

Egy kicsit
kitértnék a Housekeepingre. Érdekes, hogy otthon a takarítók/szobalányok le vannak nézve (persze nem mindenki),
pedig sokan nem is gondolnák milyen sokat dolgoznak és milyen fárasztó is
rendesen kitakarítani a szobákat órákon keresztül. Ez az egyik legfontosabb dolog egy hotelben,
hiszen ezért jön vissza a vendég, mert minden csillog villog. Itt egy
lakosztály 3 akár 4 szobából is áll, amire van 2 óra, hogy kitakarítsák. Az
itteni housekeeperek meg nem állnak annyit dolgoznak, hogy befejezzék a szobákat de mégis mindig
mosolygósak, kedvesek.
I would
like to speak about Housekeping. I do not understand why people do not respect the housekeepers in Hungary (of course not everybody) because they
work a lot and it is a very tiring job to clean rooms for hours and hours. This is one of the most
important jobs in a hotel because guests return mainly because of the
cleanliness of a hotel. A suite contains 3-4 rooms and housekeepers have 2
hours to clean them. Housekeepers do not take a break because they have to finish with the rooms but they are always nice and smile.
A housekeepingen
kaptam egy lányt, akivel együtt tölthettem az egész napot. Milyen kicsi a
világ, ő is magyar és még a vezetéknevünk is egyezik. Nagyon kedves, már két
éve itt dolgozik, tud mindent a housekeepingről. Elmagyarázott minden alapot,
melyik tisztítószert mire kell alkalmazni, hogyan kell bevetni az ágyat stb.
Nagyon örültem neki, hogy tudtam beszélni egy magyarral, aki ráadásul
türelmesen magyarázott nekem egész nap :) Ketten kitakarítottunk úgy 5-6 szobát
egész nap (inkább ő csinálta én megfigyeltem, és amit kért megcsináltam), majd fél 3kor a menedzser hívatott. Elmondta, hogy megkaptam a
gyakorlati lehetőséget 6 hónapra. Az első 2-3 hétben én is housekeeper leszek,
megtanulom az alapokat, majd utána elkezdem a csoportvezetői képzést. Ez egy
hatalmas lehetőség, még fel sem fogtam, hogy megyünk.
Norbi is megkapta
a munkát az egyik étteremben. Mindenki nagyon kedves volt vele, és már főzött is a
vendégek előtt. A későbbiekben lehetősége lesz mind a négy étteremben dolgozni.
From
the Housekeeping I got a girl who I can spend the whole day with. What a small
world she is also Hungarian and our surname is the same. She is very nice and
she works there for 2 years now and knows everything about housekeeping.
She explained all the basics like which detergent to use on which surface, how
to make bed etc. I was very happy that I could speak with a Hungarian girl who
explained everything in a patient nice manner. :) We cleaned approximately 5-6 rooms all
day (actually she cleaned the rooms, I just tried to observe and do what she asked) and the manager called me at 2.30pm. She said that I got the placement for
6 months. On the first 2-3 weeks I will be a housekeeper, learn the basics and
then I will get the supervisory training. This is a great opportunity I still
cannot believe that we are going. Norbi got the job as well in one of the four
restaurant. Everybody was nice with him and he cooked in front of the guests.
After a while he will have the opportunity to work in all four restaurants.
Munka után olyan
négy óra fele körül néztem a hotelben, és környékén. Mindenki „meglepően”
nagyon kedves volt, őszintén megmondom nem vártam, hogy mindenki ennyire kedves
lesz. Csak bolyongtam, nézelődtem, és bekéredzkedtem a különböző étteremekbe,
készíthettem képeket, beszélgettem a pincérekkel, menedzserekkel. Az egyik
étteremben még a konyhában is jártam, ahol megkóstolhattam különböző ételeket.
Nagyon jó élmény volt, hogy senki nem zavart el sehonnan, nyugottan
bámészkodhattam probléma nélkül. Kérdeztem embereket a munkájukról, és
beszélgettem az időjárásról (erről mindig lehet az angolokkal :) )
After
work about 4pm I looked around in the hotel and around. „Surprisingly”
everybody was very nice, honestly I did not expect that everybody wil be very
welcoming. I was just wandering, looking around and I went to the restaurants,
took pictures and spoke with waiters and managers. I could go to one of the restaurants' kitchen where I could taste some dishes. It was a great
experience that nobody sent me away, I could wandering without any problem. I
asked employees about their work and speak about the weather (it is always a
very good topic :) )
Március 26-án
kezdünk és szeptember 26-ig maradunk. Nehéz 6 hónap áll előttünk de nagyon
várom. Most 20 napunk van eladni a bútorainkat, vagy raktárat keresni nekik
vagy pedig elvitetni Skóciába. Ki kell költözni az albérletből, és keresni egy
másikat Skóciában, de addig folyamatosan dolgozni, hogy legyen pénzünk. Az
egyetemi beadandókat is el kell kezdeni, mert nagyon sok van. Valószínüleg nagy
részét a hotelben fogom megírni, elektronikus könyvek, és újságok segítségével.
Szerencsére az egyetem támogat minket, és nagyon büszkék ránk.
We will
start on 26th March and finish on 26th September. We are looking forward to a
difficult six months. Now we have 20days to sell our furnitures, or find a storage
for them or take them to Scotland. We have to move out from our recent flat and
find another one in Scotland, but work continuously to have money. We also have
to write our assignments in uni, because I have a lot to do. Probably I will
write most of them in the hotel using E-books and E-journals. Fortunately the
unviersity support us and they are very proud of us.
